Food Story
Curry originates in Indian cuisine and was brought to Japan from India by the British. The Imperial Japanese Navy adopted curry to prevent beriberi, and now the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's Friday menu is curry. As one of the most popular dishes in Japan, Japanese curry is more sweet than spicy due to the use of a larger variety of vegetables (as well as fruits) and a milder spice mix compared to traditional Indian curry. We build our spice mix from scratch instead of using instant ones to keep the amount of preservatives to a minimum.
